The Government Contracts Act came into force on 1st July 1957, when what is today the Republic of Kenya was a colony. Since then, the Act has undergone a few revisions and amendments. Since the enactment of the Act, many changes in terms of legislation and governance have been witnessed.
Further to the attainment of independence, in the year 2010, we promulgated the new Constitution resulting in the change of governance structure and revision of laws to conform to the Constitution. The Government Contracts Act is one of the pending laws has not been reviewed in tandem with the new constitutional dispensation and other relevant statutes.
In this regard the OAG&DOJ has prepared the Draft Government Contracts Bill, 2017, and we are hereby publishing the same for stakeholders for review, public participation, comments on the same should reach this office by Friday 12th January 2018.
